Elin Electronics
The Gujarat EMS Specialist That Wired India's White Goods Revolution From the Inside
THE MOMENT
Every ceiling fan in India has a capacitor starter, a speed regulator, and a motor control board. Every air conditioner has an inverter PCB that adjusts compressor speed for energy efficiency. Every modern washing machine has a programme controller that sequences the wash cycle. These electronic assemblies — invisible inside the product, essential to its function — are what Elin Electronics has been making for fifty years.
Elin is the company inside India's home appliances. When Havells, Orient, V-Guard, and Crompton make their fans; when Voltas and Blue Star make their air conditioners; when Whirlpool and Samsung India make their washing machines — a significant share of the electronic assemblies inside those products comes from Elin. Made in Vadodara. Built with the precision that consumer electronics reliability requires.

The Playbook Move
Move 7 — Control the Value Chain
Elin controls the appliance electronics value chain from PCB design support through component sourcing to assembled and tested controller — capturing the value at every stage that a pure assembler surrenders to others.
“We are inside India's homes. Not as a brand — as the intelligence that makes the product work.”
— Elin Electronics leadership
THE COMPANY BEFORE
Elin Electronics was founded in 1969 in Vadodara — Gujarat's industrial hub — supplying electrical components to India's growing appliance industry. The founding customer base was India's ceiling fan manufacturers — among the world's largest fan industries by volume — who needed the capacitors, regulators, and control sub-assemblies that fan manufacturing requires.
The appliance electronics connection was natural: as India's consumer appliances became more electronically sophisticated through the 1990s (inverter ACs replacing fixed-speed compressors, digital washing machines replacing mechanical timers), the circuit board assemblies inside those appliances became more complex and more valuable. Elin grew with the sophistication of India's appliances.
THE CRISIS
The white goods EMS business faces the same competitive pressure as all consumer electronics manufacturing: OEM customers are cost-conscious, Chinese competition is always present in the background, and the product generations turn over every three to five years, requiring continuous re-engineering of the assembly process.
The LED lighting disruption — when LED replaced CFL and incandescent globally in a compressed five-year transition — was both an opportunity (LED driver electronics need assembly) and a challenge (LED margins compressed faster than the product cycle allowed manufacturers to adjust).
THE LEADERSHIP DECISION
Elin's decision to pursue the EV charger electronics segment — building the PCB assemblies for Level 1 and Level 2 EV chargers as India's EV transition began — was the forward-looking market entry that positions Elin for the segment that will grow fastest in India's electronics manufacturing landscape.
The Make in India alignment — as India's PLI scheme for white goods encouraged domestic manufacturing of the electronic components inside appliances — gave Elin's domestic EMS position a policy tailwind that imported PCB assembly could not access.
THE STRATEGIC PIVOT
Elin's pivot was from a pure sub-assembly supplier to India's most vertically integrated appliance electronics company — supplying complete controller solutions (board design support, component sourcing, assembly, test) rather than just assembling OEM-designed boards.
The EV segment development — charger controllers, battery management system assemblies, and onboard charger electronics — is the highest-growth electronics application in India's consumer and industrial market and the segment Elin is positioning as its next major revenue stream.
MARKET REACTION
India's appliance OEMs — Havells, Crompton, Voltas, Blue Star — have maintained and grown their Elin supply relationships through successive appliance generation transitions, validating the quality and engineering support that makes Elin a development partner rather than a pure contract assembler.
The EV charger electronics market — still early but growing rapidly as India's charging infrastructure expands — is being entered by Elin with the quality systems and automotive-grade assembly processes that EV applications require.
THE FACTORY FLOOR
Elin's Vadodara and Roorkee facilities produce the full range of appliance electronics: from the simple fan regulator PCBs that are among the highest-volume single-design assemblies in India's electronics manufacturing, to the sophisticated inverter AC controller boards that require automotive-grade soldering and testing protocols.
The in-circuit test and functional test infrastructure — testing every assembled board before it is shipped to the appliance OEM — is calibrated to each customer's product specification. A washing machine controller board that passes functional test is approved; one that fails diagnosis and rework before any defective unit leaves the factory.
THE RESULTS
THE PLAYBOOK MOVE
Move 7 — Control the Value Chain: Elin controls the appliance electronics value chain from PCB design support through component sourcing to assembled and tested controller — capturing the value at every stage that a pure assembler surrenders to others.
THE LESSON
The Company That Makes the Electronics Inside India's Homes Has Built the Most Intimate Manufacturing Relationship in the Country
Elin's products are inside the ceiling fans that cool India's homes, the ACs that make India's summers bearable, and increasingly the EV chargers that will power India's electric vehicles. The intimacy of that presence — inside the products that define daily life — is the commercial relationship that decades of quality and engineering support have earned. The company that becomes embedded in its customers' product development process is not easily replaced; it is grown out of.
In your customer relationships, are you a vendor or a development partner? A vendor is replaced on price. A development partner is embedded in the product roadmap. The transition from vendor to partner requires engineering capability, not just manufacturing capability.
